John Kenton Phipps age 87 of Farragut, formerly of Paducah, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008. John graduated from the University of West Virginia in Montgomery. He entered the U S Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He went to work in Oak Ridge at the K25 plant as an electrical engineer, transferred to Paducah, KY, where he was a part of the planning and construction team for the Paducah Nuclear Energy Plant. He returned to the K25 plant 25 years later, and retired after 38 years of service. John was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church USA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome Kenton Phipps and Mabel Anna Wilkinson Phipps; brother, David Phipps. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Hayes Phipps; daughters, Jo Anna Gurley and husband Larry of Memphis, Jan Sheppard and husband Ron of Duncanville, TX, Jill Milton of Owensboro, KY; grandchildren, Mary Hayes Roberts, Ronald Kenton Sheppard and wife, Kristen, Ashley Kreklau and husband, Rafael, Lindsay Milton; great grandson, Jacob Kreklau; sister and brother-in-law, Sallie and Enos Elkins of Littleton, CO; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Phipps, Kitty and Bill Burke, Billie and Asa Hayes, Lois Hayes and Mary Hayes; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Vern Holstad officiating.
